In honor of Black History Month, For the Love of Buddy Miles returns for its second annual celebration, honoring the life, legacy, and groundbreaking contributions of Buddy Miles. A legendary artist whose influence shaped the landscape of funk, soul, and blues, Buddy left an indelible mark on music history and Black culture.
One of Buddy's iconic songs, “We Got to Live Together,” speaks to the importance of unity and oneness, a message that resonates deeply through his soulful rhythms and heartfelt lyrics.
On March 1, 2024, fans from across the nation gathered to celebrate Buddy’s unmatched artistry. The event was electric, with standing-room-only energy as attendees swayed and danced, transported by the unmistakable spirit of Buddy Miles. The audience was captivated, and the echoes of his music served as a reminder of his enduring legacy.
The Legacy of Buddy Miles
Buddy Miles was a master of funk and soul, a triple threat as a drummer, guitarist, and vocalist. Widely celebrated for his time with Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys, Buddy’s career was nothing short of iconic. His catalog of hits not only reached global acclaim, but also showcased his ability to blend genres effortlessly, influencing generations of musicians.
Beyond his music, Buddy’s creativity extended to pop culture, where he became the voice of the California Raisins in their unforgettable Claymation commercials. This unique touch added a layer of charm to his already vibrant persona, making him a beloved figure in entertainment history.
Buddy shared the stage with the most iconic musicians in history, including Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Billy Cox, George Clinton, and Bootsy Collins and more. Known for his one-of-a-kind style and electrifying performances, Buddy was truly “the baddest of the bad.”
Bringing the Sound to Life
The event showcased an incredible lineup of world- class musician from across genres. Leading the charge was world- renowned drummer Dennis Chambers, whose unmatched talent brought a thunderous energy to the stage. Also performing was 11- time Grammy winner Tony Lindsay, whose soulful vocals captivated the audience, and Jim McCarty the beloved Detroit guitar legend and original member of the Buddy Miles express. Peter Keys of Lynyrd Skynyrd delivered his signature keyboard brilliance, while Derek St. Holmes, the iconic voice of Ted Nugent and Kenny Olson, an acclaimed guitarist with a dynamic style added their unique flavors to the tribute and it was a site to see.
Building on last year’s success, For the Love of Buddy Miles returns bigger and better. This year On March 1, 2025, The Power of Soul LLC and Slight Return LLC proudly present a night to honor one of music’s greatest pioneers.
