Meet Ralph Thompkins, Owner
S.W.A.G Kids Gym

Ralph Thompkins has a passion for developing children through exercise and interaction to become the best versions of themselves. Developing and teaching children from as young as 4 months old, he brings energy to every child he comes across and allows them grow and develop with confidence.

Thompkins has been actively coaching and teaching children for over 15 years, beginning as a coach at the YMCA in Farmington Hills when he was 16 years old.

As a student athlete at Grand Valley State University, Thompkins would often volunteer at sports camps, schools and hospitals around the city of Grand Rapids. He graduated from GVSU with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations in 2008. Thompkins is Certified Strength and Conditioning coach as well as a Certified Youth Fitness and Exercise Development coach.

After college, he worked in retail and sales before landing at a gym for kids in 2013. After 5 years of directing and teaching at a gym for kids in West Bloomfield, Thompkins opened his own Kids gym - S.W.A.G. Kids Gym – in September of 2019.

Thompkins is the Youngest Black Male Owner of a Kids Gym in the Midwest and was recently a winner of Oakland County’s Business Executives 40 under 40, where he was the first ever Black Male Owner in the fitness and childhood development concentration in Oakland County to selected for the award.

Thompkins also opened is his own Event Entertainment business, S.W.A.G Entertainment in July 2021 where he has played at venues such as Ford Field, Pine Knob, Exodus Rooftop, Detroit Institute of Arts and several other places for Kids Events, Weddings, Mitzvahs, Communions and more.

He resides in Farmington Hills. In his spare time he enjoys playing and watching all sports, listening to music, going to concerts and spending time with his family.
