Organization Calls on Partners to Invest in Economic Equity Amid Today’s Challenges

Opportunity Resource Fund (OppFund), a mission-driven community development financial institution (CDFI), proudly announces its 40th Anniversary Event Series—a statewide celebration of economic empowerment launching this spring and culminating in a flagship public gala at the historic Michigan Central in Detroit on July 17, 2025.

Since 1985, OppFund has deployed over $100 million in capital to support homeownership, entrepreneurship, and community development across Michigan. From helping first-time homeowners overcome economic barriers, to funding businesses that uplift returning citizens, OppFund has remained a steadfast partner in promoting economic equity for underserved communities.

“Now, more than ever, we need bold investments in community-driven solutions,” said Christi Coady Narayanan, President & CEO of Opportunity Resource Fund. “As we celebrate 40 years of impact, we invite mission-aligned partners, donors, and community champions to stand with us in advancing economic mobility for Michigan families and small businesses.”

Detroit Grounds Crew (DGC): With support from OppFund’s Motor City Contractor Fund, co-owners Chris Aldridge and Aaron Smith—both dedicated to employing returning citizens and underemployed individuals—expanded their blight remediation services with the City of Detroit. Their business journey came full circle during a celebratory closing at Morningside Café, another OppFund-supported enterprise led by entrepreneur Jeffrey Lewis II.

Ms. Keaton, First-Time Homeowner: After 16 months of determination, layoffs, and expired funding windows, Ms. Keaton finally closed on her dream home through a Fresh Opportunity Mortgage—made possible by OppFund’s deep commitment to helping Detroit residents build generational wealth through homeownership.
