Scott Farida began his journey at the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office in 2017, serving as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and acting Chief of the Family Support Office as needed. His tenure in these roles has given him valuable insight into the legal system and the needs of the community.

In 2009, Scott faced significant health challenges when he was diagnosed with an arteriovenous malformation in his brain, specifically his left occipital lobe. Enduring numerous surgeries and extremely painful recovery, he experienced a pivotal moment where his life flashed before his eyes. Scott emerged from this battle with a renewed sense of purpose and an obligation to serve. Motivated by his personal journey, he sought further education, graduating magna cum laude from Oakland University and cum laude from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, determined to achieve what others thought impossible.

Scott’s passion for justice and community change is clear. Here’s his plan of action as Oakland County Prosecutor:

Public Safety
• Victim Advocacy: Ensuring that victims’ voices are heard and respected in the legal process.
• Accountability: Ending excessive leniency by holding individuals accountable for their actions to ensure fair and just outcomes.
• Repeat Offenders: Implementing stricter measures for repeat offenders to protect the community.
Restoring Justice
• Depoliticizing Decisions: Removing politics from prosecutorial decisions to ensure that justice is served based on facts and evidence, not political influence.
• Trial Advocacy: Reducing the practice of plea bargains and allowing more cases to proceed to trial, where evidence and facts can be fully presented.
• Proportionality: Ensuring that crimes are handled based on the facts and circumstances of the cases and avoiding radical policies in extreme when it comes to justice.

Community Rebuilding
• Collaboration: Building stronger partnerships law enforcement, prosecutors, and the community to foster open communication and make resources more accessible.
• Proper Community Investment: Prioritizing the office’s resources in ways that will promote small businesses and community initiatives, ensuring that office funds are properly allocated to serve the public and not misused for personal gain.
• Accessible Legal Services: Ensuring that prosecutors and staff are readily available to effectively serve the community.

Fiscal Responsibility
• Taxpayer Accountability: Ensuring that taxpayer dollars are used to benefit the community rather than for personal or political gain.

Career Opportunities
• Diverse Leadership: Scott is committed to promoting diverse and inclusive bi-partisan leadership, ensuring equal opportunity for all, and fostering a fair workplace environment.

Women’s Rights
• Domestic Violence: Taking immediate and aggressive action against domestic violence, which remains a leading cause of death for women in such cases. Scott aims to ensure victims are safe, their voices heard, and their information is fully protected from their abusers. The cycle of violence and abuse must end.
• Child Support & Family Support: Making child support a priority, with a focus on family involvement, so both parents can work toward rebuilding strong, supportive environments for their children.
• Special Needs Advocacy: Ensuring that women with special needs receive appropriate care and are provided with the information they need to protect their rights and avoid exploitation.
