For the executives who lead today’s largest companies, the ability to maintain good health despite the nonstop demands of boards, shareholders, constituents and employees can feel like an unwinnable battle.
Synergy Longevity Centers, the Midwest’s first comprehensive preventative health and longevity center, offers state-of-the-art screening and evaluation services to help corporations and nonprofits of all sizes ensure the health and wellbeing of their leadership teams.
“It’s a comprehensive evaluation designed for executives, entrepreneurs, and business owners to gain insight into their health status,” says Dr. Anthony Oraha, co-founder of Synergy Longevity Centers with Dr. Michael Zielinski. “We personalize every package for every executive.”
With long working hours, poor eating habits, damaging stresses, frequent travel and hours sitting through meetings, the life of a corporate leader can lead to extensive health issues including high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes and more. Those are the concerns that have more and more companies turning to Synergy Longevity Centers to evaluate their C-Suite teams and help get them on the road to good health.
With the Ultimate Executive Physical, companies can provide screening services for as many leaders as they wish – usually between five and 20. These individuals will undergo individualized testing which includes Synergy’s proprietary whole-body MRI scan and multi-cancer DNA detection test. Other tests include extensive cardiac testing, macro and micro-nutrient testing and more as well as an evaluation of each individuals’ family and medical histories.
“At the end of testing, everyone gets a thorough report and we have a results meeting where we go through everything line by line,” says Dr. Oraha. He notes that it’s important to have this one-on-one discussion because so many medical terms are unknown and sometimes frightening to people when they read them. “We give them the ‘English translation’ and then provide advice for moving forward.”
If testing reveals an irregularity, Dr. Oraha and his team have built a top-tier roster of consulting physician specialists, who can work with patients on a plan to address any issues, whether that’s medication, a procedure or physical therapy. Because of the close relationships between these physicians and Dr. Oraha’s team, patients are seen quickly for follow-up, often within a few days.
Dr. Oraha also makes sure that every patient who goes through testing – not just through the executive physicals – has his personal cell phone number. “People always go to their doctor’s office and forget the questions they meant to ask,” says Dr. Oraha. “It happens to everyone. I want to remove barriers to communication.”
Dr. Oraha is passionate about prevention and early detection. “My background is in emergency medicine and on a daily basis, I saw the results of not being proactive. We have to do better as a health care system. We have to switch the paradigm.”
He added that the five primary screening tests for cancer only pick up 14 percent of cases. The remaining cancers are found only after symptoms develop “and those 86 percent account for 70 percent of cancer deaths,” Oraha says. “How are we missing the ball so much on this?”
Technologies such as Synergy Longevity’s full-body MRI scan can detect issues in the pancreas, ovaries, brain and other organs in their earliest forms and stages. It is a powerful tool in a full spectrum of testing that has produced a growing number of patient success stories.
One woman in her 40s, for example, who consistently saw her cardiologist and took her prescribed medications, was found to have a previously undetected heart blockage. A man in his early 60s came in for testing and a small spot was discovered on his prostate. Another man in his early 40s, who had been adopted as a child and knew nothing of his biological family’s medical history, was worried about his cholesterol. A test at Synergy Longevity showed he had a 70 percent blockage in his widowmaker artery. Each of these patients was treated before their conditions caused potentially catastrophic outcomes.
“My goal is to never find anything wrong when we test people,” says Oraha. “But if we do find something, we want to take care of it ASAP. Our goal is to keep you as healthy as possible.”
That is the goal, too, of the Ultimate Executive Physical, making it so appealing to organizations – and the people who lead them.
“It shows a lot about a company’s culture when they pay attention to people’s health,” says Oraha. “It shows you care about your employees, their families and their peace of mind.”
