Tamponpalooza: Breaking the Menstrual Taboo in Detroit

Menstrual health is often shrouded in stigma, but one Detroit-based event is challenging that silence head-on. Tamponpalooza, an innovative celebration of menstrual equity and hygiene awareness, is set to take over the city on March 22, 2025.

Organized by local activist Ken Brass, host of Soundoff Sundays open mic, Tamponpalooza is more than just an event—it’s a movement. The day will feature art installations, a fashion show, and performances by local artists, all designed to spark conversation and encourage advocacy around menstrual health.

“We believe women deserve resources to manage their menstrual health with dignity and confidence,” says KrysP, one of the event organizers. “Tamponpalooza is about empowerment, education, and pushing for menstrual equity.”

For many, menstruation remains an uncomfortable or even taboo subject, leading to a lack of education, limited access to essential products, and deeply rooted social stigmas. Tamponpalooza seeks to break those barriers by fostering open discussions and community support.

Attendees of all ages and genders are encouraged to join this critical conversation. Admission is free with the donation of menstrual hygiene or personal care products or $10 per person. The event will follow all local health and safety guidelines.
