Some people wear their love for their city on their sleeve. Ty Mopkins? He designs it into every stitch.
Ty discovered his passion for fashion at a young age. By 13, he was already sketching designs, imagining pieces that reflected his unique style and deep-rooted love for Detroit. Fast forward to today, and he’s the Creative Director for the Ty Mopkins Collections at Starter and Pony, crafting designs inspired by the Motor City. No matter where Ty goes, his Detroit pride follows.
But fashion is just one part of his incredible journey. His love for sports and entertainment has opened doors to remarkable achievements—including winning an Emmy for his work with the Detroit Pistons. Now, he’s stepping into television as the Executive Producer of the upcoming series “South West High”, which he is working on alongside Jalen Rose and Dennis Reed—a project he considers a major milestone in his career.
Beyond fashion and entertainment, Ty has also ventured into the world of wine. His wine, Roselawn, is named after the street he grew up on, and his children are actively involved in the business—something that fills him with immense pride.
Yet, what truly sets Ty apart is his generosity and unwavering support for his community. He’s the guy everyone turns to—the connector, the problem-solver, the motivator. Ask anyone, and you’ll only hear positive things about him.
His roots in fashion retail trace back to Strictly Sportswear, where he learned the ins and outs of the business. That experience shaped him, teaching him the importance of community engagement and the power of bringing people together through fashion.
And he’s not stopping anytime soon. Next up? His highly anticipated podcast, Suite 1701, which promises to be as exciting and dynamic as he is.
Ty Mopkins isn’t just a designer, a creator, or an entrepreneur—he is Detroit. Whether through fashion, sports, entertainment, or business, he continues to elevate his city, proving that Detroit’s heart beats strong through people like him.
